CJ by Cookie Johnson was born of frustration. Co-founder Cookie Johnson is a curvy woman who could never find jeans to fit her body. Although incredibly frustrated, she also knew she wasn’t alone and that there was definitely a “hole” in the jeans market. After leaving one too many stores empty-handed, she decided it was time to take action. It took only one meeting with denim guru Michael Glasser (of Seven and Citizens), and CJ by Cookie Johnson was born. CJ by Cookie Johnson promises something that only the finest jeans designers have been able to master: premium denim jeans for a curvy silhouette.

Cookie Johnson’s background certainly prepared her for her foray into fashion. Armed with a degree in retailing of clothing and textiles from Michigan State University, she eventually worked her way up to becoming a department store dress and bridal gown buyer. She admits she was “in her element” and loved going to New York City every season to find just the right styles that would thrill her customers. After her marriage to Earvin “Magic” Johnson, however, she decided to concentrate on being a full-time wife and mother. But CJ by Cookie Johnson has brought her full circle, and the success of her premium denim line has been nothing short of amazing. Not bad for a girl from Huntsville, Alabama. more
